I started this little blog to keep my friends and fam posted on my experience as a woodworking student at the Center for Furniture Craftsmenship in Rockport, Maine. In April, I left my job as a consumer trend analyst at an awesome little brand strategy firm in NYC for a change of pace and personal direction. After a few years of mouseclicking, I’m ready to get my soft hands dirty and calloused and build some fine furniture. I’ve signed up for the 12 Week course from October to January and was wondering if there was anything you’d like to say to people who will be entering the program from a student’s perspective already in the course.

I’d say get psyched for one of the best experiences you’ll ever have. The community of woodworkers on campus is inspiring and the work you’ll be capable of after just a few weeks will amaze you. My only advice would be to hold off on purchasing many of the items on the tool list…the school is well stocked and you can easily pick up tools in Maine whenever you need to.

I don’t know if you remember me but I work at Gilmore Group and we worked together briefly on a Johnson and Johnson project a while back. I stumbled across your blog through Apartment Therapy and I think its great! As someone who took four years of woodworking and worked in a shop during design school, i can tell you that the urge to build things with your hands will never ever go away…ever… Good luck with your new endeavor, and with your barn!
